Acorn Class (Preschool) The preschool is a mixed age early childhood class for children ages 3 – 6 years old. The children must be potty trained. Offering 2, 3 and 4, half or full Days (Monday - Thursday, no class on Fridays) You may enroll your child for half day, half day plus lunchtime, or the full day program which includes an afternoon rest and free play. Before and after care may be arranged depending on availability.
NEW FALL 2021! Little Acorns (Young Threes) (Mondays and/or Wednesdays 9:00 am to 12:30 pm) Little Acorns is an opportunity for children who are turning three and young threes to have a gentle entry into school. The class size is limited (5 to 6 children dependent on the makeup of the enrolled children). The Little Acorns have their own cozy room where they participate in activities designed to help with the transition from home to school such as indoor creative play, fine motor skill activities, wet on wet watercolor painting and snack time. They will also participate in some activities with the mixed age Acorn Class such as morning walk, outdoor play, outdoor morning circle and seasonal activities and festivals. Parents, in consultation with the teacher, may enroll their child in the first semester for one or two mornings. In the second semester (most) children move into two mornings. Older three year olds may move into the Acorn Class (mixed age) Preschool after discussion with the teacher and dependent on enrollment. Midyear enrolment available. Children should be potty trained or potty trained with occasional accidents. Pull ups may be worn. (Please discuss this with the teacher.) Full day (lunch, rest and creative play) is also available to 3:00 pm for an additional fee.
Golden Acorns (Young Fives) This full 4 day a week program helps prepare children who will be entering an academic public or private school environment for Kindergarten. These children attend the morning mixed age program with added, age appropriate challenges and activities. After lunch the Golden Acorns experience Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, World Languages, Movement and the Arts in a manner that is natural, balanced and developmentally appropriate, laying a strong foundation for academic learning in the higher grades. The unhurried atmosphere gives children time to integrate all of these new experiences while nurturing head, hands and heart.
Snow Bunnies - Parent and Child (New March 2021) 6 week session. Acorn KinderHouse invites parents and their children ages 16 month to 3.5 years to come enjoy a very special morning. Snow Bunnies is a COVID-19 friendly, outdoor Parent and Child on Friday mornings. This class will be held outside with activities that will enhance the enjoyment of being outdoors with your child. Classes will include circle time, parenting discussion, free play and activities that are developmentally appropriate. The Snow Bunnies class will be held on Fridays from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm beginning March 5 and will run for 6 weeks. The class will be facilitated by one of our Waldorf Certified Early Childhood teachers.
Ducks and Ducklings (Parent and Child Class) 6 week session. These classes form a community of children (ages 15 month to 3 years) and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers who come together for a morning of bread-making, free play and movement, circle games, songs and nature activities lead by our experienced, Waldorf trained teacher in a warm, welcoming, home-like environment. This unique program is a special time to explore with your child and connect with other parents and caregivers. In the fall participants will have the opportunity to participate in fall festivals such as Harvest (Oct), Lantern Walk (Nov) and Advent Garden (Dec), Valentines (Feb), May Day (May).Parent and Child allows parents time to observe their children in a preschool-like, social setting; connect with other parents; and discuss Waldorf inspired, practical skills for natural and wholistic parenting. Topics of discussion include things such as child development, the importance of warmth, the importance of play, the effects of media, and daily rhythm. Parent and Child allows the imagination and creativity of the child to flourish. We will craft, sing, bake, listen to stories, have a snack, move our bodies, play indoors and outdoors, and share. This is an open, non-judgmental space where you are welcomed to come as you are, ask questions if you wish, and have as much fun as you'd like!
Hens and Chicks (Infant and Mama) This is an opportunity for soon-to-be Mamas and Mamas of infants (birth through 15 months) to gather and connect in a warm and inviting environment while sharing in the delights and frustrations of mothering. Each week we will explore a topic of interest to mothers, make connections with other mamas, participate in a special circle time, and explore the milestones of infancy and early childhood. This class is lead by one of our Waldorf trained and experienced teachers. Sessions are 5 weeks Group size is limited.
Summer Camp We will begin each day enjoying outdoor play in the cool of the morning in our magical woods. After spending time outside, playing, gardening or on a nature walk, the children will circle together, to learn songs and poems. Campers will prepare a nutritious snack, play indoors with friends and work on summer crafts. Snack will be served either picnic-style outdoors (weather permitting) or indoors around our cozy snack table. Story time or other summer activities (inside and outside) will follow, and the campers will complete the morning with outside playtime. All campers will spend ample time outside enjoying the sunshine, playing games and getting wet: some days include water play, sprinklers, or water games.
